Research interests/areas of supervision
Italian and Romance linguistics, phonetics and phonology, sociolinguistics, endangered languages and dialects, language contact, the languages of Europe and the Asia-Pacific, language teaching and learning.
Biography
John Hajek is also director of the Research Unit for Multilingualism and Cross-cultural Communication (RUMACCC) in the School, as well as project leader for the OLT-funded Languages and Cultures Network for Australian Universities (LCNAU). Trained originally in Italian, French and Romance linguistics, he completed his studies in Italy and Great Britain before returning to Melbourne. He has extensive experience in teaching language (Italian and Tetum) and linguistics (Italian, Romance and general) and has published across a wide range of research areas. Projects under way include address practices in Italy and Europe as well as the description of minority and endangered languages in Italy, Europe and the Asia-Pacific.
