Research interests/areas of supervision

Dr Anderson's main research focus is Spanish culinary culture, from the role of gastronomy in Spain's fin-de-siecle identity formation to Spanish cookery television shows as a site for gender critique. Dr Anderson has recently embarked on a new project looking at historical memory and culinary nostalgia in contemporary Spanish culture. This builds on her interest in cookery books written during the Spanish civil war, as well as her research into contemporary Spanish gastro-tourism and the ways culinary culture is used to project and construct national identity.

Dr Anderson has also written about the politics of food consumption in the mainstream Australia and is part of another research project that looks at the intercultural representations of food in Europe between the fall of the iron curtain and the European financial crisis. She also teaches and supervises on food and identity issues in Latin America, such as the gastronomic boom in Peru.

Dr Anderson has organized other food-related engagement activities related to these research and supervision areas:

  1. Melbourne Food and Wine Festival Event with Movida's Frank Camorra and Richard Cornish: Spanish Cuisine in a Post-Bulli Era
  2. Melbourne Food and Wine Festival Events (2013) with Movida’s Frank Camorra and Richard Cornish and Movida Aqui - Masterclass: "The Gastronomy of Southern Spain & Lunch: Savouring Catalonia"
  3. Panel discussion "The European Union on a Plate: The Promotion and Consumption of Identity"
  4. Melbourne Masterclass - A Taste of Peru
